Abbazia di Novacella - Stiftskellerei Neustift
Abbazia di Novacella dates back to 1142 and brings 870 years of experience and state-of-the-art technology to its winemaking. The monastery has had much success year after year in producing wines that burst with flavor and varietal character. Located in the northernmost winegrowing region on the southern side of the Alps, the mineral-rich soils (at an elevation of 1,970 ft – 2,950 ft) and the cool climate are all factors which contribute to the intense aromas and flavors, as well as the fruity, mouth-watering acidity found in the wines. The whites are produced in the Valle Isarco, but the monastery also owns vineyards in the warm central region of Alto Adige which supplies the red grapes. Their Marklhof estate, located in the cool rolling hills of Cornaiano to the south of Bolzano is where the grapes are crushed and the wines matured.
